Overview

OpenRig is a Node.js CLI (`rig`) and daemon that launches Claude Code and Codex sessions in tmux as a named, persistent team described in YAML. You talk to a kernel operator or a lead agent, which coordinates seats such as builder, QA and reviewer. It ships three starting teams (starter, workshop, factory), a TUI dashboard and a message queue between seats.

Who it is for: Developers running several Claude Code and Codex agents on one repository

Strengths

  • Mixes Claude Code and Codex seats in one YAML-defined rig
  • Ships three preset teams: starter, workshop and factory
  • Includes a TUI dashboard and per-seat status and readiness via `rig ps`
  • Setup has a dry run that previews changes before applying

Weaknesses

  • Writes hooks and trust settings into Claude and Codex config files, plus ~/.tmux.conf
  • Native Windows unsupported; WSL2 only, and automated tests do not run there
  • Requires Node.js 22 or 24 and tmux; distro Node on Linux may be too old
  • Needs an existing Claude Code or Codex login; starter team assumes both

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Docker
  • Needs Node.js 22 or 24, tmux, Claude Code or Codex CLI, Herdr (optional)
  • Models: Claude Code, Codex
