Overview

DeepCode is a coding agent that works in your repository from a terminal UI, a native desktop app or a browser workbench, all connected to one shared local background service. Projects, sessions, models, skills, permissions, goals and automations are shared across clients. It also includes a Paper2Code pipeline that turns research papers into code. Models are user-configured, with provider templates including Opper and Amazon Bedrock.

Who it is for: Developers wanting a self-run coding agent with terminal, desktop and web UIs

Strengths

  • Three clients (TUI, Desktop, Web) share sessions and approvals through one local service
  • Sandboxed commands, with opt-in egress limits, command screening and OS keychain key storage
  • Goal loops, parallel agents, reusable skills, MCP support and automations are built in
  • Bring your own cloud or local model, with per-session context caps and /compact

Weaknesses

  • No Docker or compose files detected; install is through a Python runtime
  • Requires Python 3.12 or newer
  • Frequent releases with behavior changes across TUI, Desktop and Web
  • RAM and hardware requirements are not stated in the README excerpt

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Python 3.12+, LLM provider or local model server
  • Models: Amazon Bedrock, Opper, DeepSeek V4, GLM-5.2, custom model servers
  • port 3081
