Overview
mirrord runs a process on your machine while routing its network traffic, file access and environment variables through a target pod in a Kubernetes cluster. It launches a helper pod on the target's node and mirrors incoming traffic to the local process. It ships as a CLI, a VS Code extension and an IntelliJ plugin, and the README says it can be used with agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.
Who it is for: Developers and AI coding agent users working on Kubernetes services
Strengths
- Test local code against real cluster services without a deploy
- CLI, VS Code extension and IntelliJ plugin all available
- Uses the default kubeconfig, no cluster-side install mentioned for basic use
- Written in Rust, MIT licensed, with frequent releases
Weaknesses
- Helper pod needs Linux capabilities such as CAP_SYS_ADMIN and CAP_NET_ADMIN
- Database branching, queue splitting and preview environments need the paid Teams tier
- Requires access to a Kubernetes cluster; not usable standalone
- Not an AI tool itself; agent support is via external skills repo
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Kubernetes cluster, kubeconfig
