Overview

Gortex indexes repositories with tree-sitter (257 languages/grammars) into a persistent SQLite-backed graph of symbols, call chains, HTTP routes and cross-repo contracts. A long-running daemon serves it to coding agents as configurable MCP tools (README cites 175 and also 100+), plus a CLI and a Next.js web UI. `gortex init` configures 19 or more detected agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex CLI.

Who it is for: Developers giving AI coding agents graph-based lookup across one or more repos

Strengths

  • Single static Go binary; semantic search works with embedded GloVe, no model download
  • Multi-repo graph with cross-repo contract matching (HTTP, gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka, and more)
  • Indexed vscode (10.7k files) in about 1 minute with 580 MB peak heap
  • One install configures every detected agent; telemetry is off by default

Weaknesses

  • Source build needs Go 1.26+ and CGO for tree-sitter bindings
  • Large repos are memory-heavy: Linux kernel took about 3 min and 5.07 GB heap
  • The 50x token saving claim is the project's own; independent verification is unknown
  • README gives inconsistent tool counts (175 vs 100+) and agent counts (19 vs 20)

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Models: llama.cpp, Anthropic, OpenAI, Ollama, Gemini
