Overview
Atlas is a Tauri desktop app (Rust backend) that runs Claude Code, Codex, its own native agent and ACP-registry agents side by side on one codebase. It records each session locally in SQLite and links commits to the session that produced them as checkpoints. A shared on-device memory index feeds context to every agent, so switching agents mid-task keeps the history.
Who it is for: Developers running several coding agents who want per-commit session history
Strengths
- Checkpoints link commits to prompts, tool calls and file changes, and survive amend and rebase
- Shared memory lets Claude Code and Codex see each other's decisions, using on-device embeddings
- Local by default: sessions in .atlas/sessions.db, secrets scrubbed before write, no account needed
- Notes are markdown, sessions JSONL, so data stays usable outside the app
Weaknesses
- Officially supports only macOS 13+ and Windows 10+ x64; Linux is untested
- Anonymous usage analytics are on by default and must be turned off
- QA on long-tail ACP registry agents is still ongoing
- Claude Code use requires installing the separate claude CLI
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Bun and Rust (build from source), claude CLI (for Claude Code agent), SQLite (bundled checkpoint store)
- Models: Claude Code, Codex, Atlas native agent, ACP registry agents (Cursor, OpenCode, Kilo Code)
