Overview

Claudian is an Obsidian plugin that embeds CLI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Grok Build, OpenCode, Pi, DeepSeek Harness) in a sidebar chat, using the vault as the working directory. Agents can read, write, edit, search and run commands on vault files. It adds inline edit with diff preview, slash commands and skills, @mentions, MCP via each CLI's config, and cross-session messaging.

Who it is for: Obsidian users who want terminal coding agents working on their vault

Strengths

  • Supports six agent harnesses behind one UI, with models discovered from each provider
  • Inline edit shows word-level diffs on selected text or at the cursor
  • No telemetry; network use limited to provider calls, MCP endpoints and a 127.0.0.1 listener
  • Agents can message, steer or start other sessions on any provider

Weaknesses

  • Requires at least one separately installed agent CLI plus a subscription or API provider
  • Desktop only; needs Obsidian 1.13.0 or newer
  • Pull requests that add new providers are not accepted
  • CLI detection can fail when Obsidian is launched from the Dock; needs PATH or env workarounds

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Obsidian 1.13.0+, Claude Code, Codex, Grok Build, OpenCode, Pi or DeepSeek Harness CLI, Subscription or API provider
  • Models: Claude Code, Codex, Grok Build, OpenCode, Pi
