Overview

agent-device lets coding agents open, inspect and control apps on iOS, Android, HarmonyOS, TV platforms, web, macOS and Linux. It exposes the same runtime as a CLI, a stdio MCP server (`agent-device mcp`) and a typed Node.js client. Agents read accessibility-tree snapshots, act through refs and selectors, and save screenshots, video and logs as evidence.

Who it is for: Mobile and React Native developers who want coding agents to verify app changes

Strengths

  • Same session model across CLI, MCP server and typed Node.js API
  • Token-efficient accessibility snapshots with refs instead of screenshot-only reasoning
  • Records runs as .ad replay scripts for CI, with strict Maestro YAML export
  • Per-worktree sessions and device claims keep parallel agents off each other's simulators

Weaknesses

  • HarmonyOS and Vega OS backends support only a subset of commands
  • Reliability depends on clear accessibility labels, roles and test IDs in the app
  • Web automation needs Node.js 24 and agent-browser; core CLI needs Node.js 22.12
  • Backends depend on platform toolchains such as XCTest, ADB and HDC being installed

What it needs

  • Needs Node.js 22.12+ (24+ for web), XCTest/iOS Simulator (iOS, tvOS), ADB (Android), HDC (HarmonyOS), agent-browser (web)
