Overview
Worktrunk is a Rust CLI that wraps git worktree so worktrees are addressed by branch name, with paths computed from a configurable template. Commands like `wt switch -c -x claude feat` create a worktree and launch an agent in it, and `wt merge` squashes, rebases, merges and cleans up. It also offers hooks, an interactive picker, CI status in `wt list --full`, and copy-on-write sharing of build caches on APFS, btrfs and XFS.
Who it is for: Developers running several Claude Code or Codex agents on one repo
Strengths
- Create a worktree and start an agent in one command (`wt switch -c -x claude`)
- Hooks on create, pre-merge and post-merge automate per-worktree setup
- Shares target/ and node_modules/ across worktrees via copy-on-write on APFS, btrfs, XFS
- Installs through Homebrew, Cargo, Winget, pacman and conda; shell integration for several shells
Weaknesses
- Needs a shell integration step (`wt config shell install`) before it can change directories
- On Windows, `wt` clashes with Windows Terminal; Winget installs it as `git-wt`
- Cache sharing only works on APFS, btrfs and XFS filesystems
- LLM commit messages and summaries need a separately configured model; supported providers unknown from README
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs git
