Overview

VibeWise is a plugin for Claude Code and Codex that adds a learning mode. The AI asks for your approach, discusses tradeoffs, and writes code only after you confirm a design and an implementation checkpoint. Preferences, notes and a project map are stored in .vibe-wise/ in your project and shared between both tools.

Who it is for: Learners and engineers who want to own design decisions while AI writes code

Strengths

  • Works in both Claude Code and Codex, sharing the same .vibe-wise/ notes
  • Explicit Build, Design and Implementation checkpoints gate when code is written
  • Adjustable experience level and checkpoint frequency (Light, Normal, Frequent)
  • No extra account, backend or telemetry; Python 3 only, no extra packages

Weaknesses

  • Slower than direct code generation by design, since every step waits on your input
  • Requires Claude Code or Codex; not usable standalone
  • In Codex, the learn command must be re-run at the start of each session
  • Saved notes enter the AI context, so they follow your tool's data settings

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Claude Code or Codex, Python 3
  • Models: Claude Code, Codex
