Overview
DevSpace is a Node-based MCP server that exposes selected local project folders to ChatGPT or other MCP clients. The client can read, write and edit files, search code, run shell commands, and use isolated Git worktrees. You expose the `/mcp` endpoint through your own HTTPS tunnel and approve connections with an Owner password.
Who it is for: ChatGPT users who want it to work on local repos through MCP
Strengths
- Access limited to folder roots you allow; connections need an Owner password
- Reads AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md and discovers local agent skills
- Isolated Git worktrees for parallel coding sessions
- Works with Linux, macOS and Windows via Git Bash or WSL
Weaknesses
- Connected client gets shell execution on your machine
- Needs a public HTTPS tunnel you set up yourself for ChatGPT
- Windows PowerShell or cmd.exe alone is not supported
- Requires Node >=22.19 and a Bash-compatible shell
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Node >=22.19 <27, Git, Bash, HTTPS tunnel (Cloudflare Tunnel, ngrok, Pinggy, Tailscale Funnel or reverse proxy)
- Models: ChatGPT (MCP connector), Other MCP clients
- port 7676
