Overview

Claude HUD is a Claude Code plugin that registers a status line command, which prints context-window usage, subscriber rate limits, model, project path and git branch below the input. Optional lines show active tools, subagents, skills, MCP servers and todo progress, read from the session transcript. Settings live in a JSON config file or the /claude-hud:configure flow, and it needs no tmux or separate window.

Who it is for: Claude Code users who want live context and rate-limit visibility

Strengths

  • Installs from the Claude Code plugin marketplace with a few slash commands
  • Reads session data Claude Code passes on stdin; no separate window or tmux
  • Extensive config: layout, element order, thresholds, colors, git and jj status
  • Labels available in English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese

Weaknesses

  • Works only with Claude Code
  • Subscriber usage limits are hidden on API-key, Bedrock and Vertex sessions
  • Tools, agents and todos lines are off by default and parse the transcript
  • Needs a JavaScript runtime; Windows users must install Node.js separately

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Claude Code, Node.js
  • Models: Claude, Bedrock, Vertex, MiniMax
