Overview
Installs as a skill for Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, and also runs as an MCP server over stdio. It gives the agent 42 Python scripts wrapping ffmpeg and ffprobe for cutting, joining, captions, loudness, reframing and platform exports. The workflow is probe, edit (stream copy where possible), then check and look at a contact sheet. No cloud or API keys are needed.

Strengths
- Every tool supports --dry-run, --json and --plan, so edits can be previewed before rendering
- Runs offline on Python standard library; only ffmpeg and python3 are required
- Contract-derived MCP schema; CI tests FFmpeg 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, 8 and 9
- Stream-copies cuts and joins where possible; never overwrites input files
Weaknesses
- Makes no editorial decisions; no face, subject or highlight detection, only measured proxies
- Visual verification depends on the calling agent having vision
- Some tools need specific FFmpeg builds; Homebrew ffmpeg lacks the subtitles filter for caption.py
- Transcription needs a separate speech engine such as Parakeet or whisper installed
