Overview
A local MCP server, run over stdio via `uvx arxiv-mcp-server`, that exposes 19 tools for arXiv literature work: search, Markdown download, outline and section reads, original-LaTeX section retrieval, BibTeX export and saved topic watches. Papers are stored on disk (default `~/.arxiv-mcp-server/papers`), and reads are bounded to 12,000 characters by default. Citation graphs come from the Semantic Scholar API; optional extras add PDF conversion and local semantic search.

Strengths

Weaknesses
- Search, LaTeX source and downloads depend on remote arXiv services; arXiv rate-limits to ~3 s per request
- Citation graph relies on Semantic Scholar; an API key is optional but improves reliability
- Semantic search needs the `[pro]` extra; PDF fallback needs `[pdf]`
- Name collides with an unrelated npm package; installing via npx gets the wrong one
