Overview

Open Duet is a desktop and self-hosted workspace where you create named agents, each with instructions, a workspace folder, memory and approval settings. A lead agent can delegate to specialists, and routines run prompts on a schedule, by webhook or on demand. It ships no model; you connect Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Cursor, ACP agents, OpenRouter or an OpenAI-compatible API such as Ollama.

Who it is for: Individuals running a team of agents on existing CLI or API engines

Strengths

  • Per-agent approval modes: Ask first, Accept edits, Plan only, with reviewable tool activity
  • Works with CLI engines, OpenRouter and OpenAI-compatible local servers like Ollama and LM Studio
  • Routines trigger by schedule, webhook or manual run; none approve actions automatically
  • Editable agent memory and searchable conversation history

Weaknesses

  • Team lead agents currently must use Claude
  • Server mode is experimental and single-owner, not multi-user
  • Desktop runs from a source checkout; installers are unsigned and do not auto-update
  • No built-in integrations catalog such as Gmail, Slack or Notion

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Docker + Compose
  • Needs Node.js 22+, uv, Docker (optional, for agent computers), An engine: CLI agent or API provider
  • Models: Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Cursor, ACP agents
