Overview

NanoClaw is a self-hosted assistant built on the Claude Agent SDK. A single Node host routes messages from channels such as Slack, Telegram, Discord and WhatsApp to per-agent containers, exchanging them through two SQLite files per session. Channels and alternative providers are installed per fork with /add-<name> skills, and customization is done by changing code with Claude Code rather than editing config files.

Who it is for: Self-hosters wanting a container-isolated chat assistant with a small codebase

Strengths

  • Agents run in Docker containers and only see explicitly mounted directories
  • Credentials are injected by a gateway, so agents never hold raw API keys
  • Small codebase: one host process, no microservices, two SQLite files per session
  • Per-agent-group memory, CLAUDE.md and scheduled tasks; many channels via skills

Weaknesses

  • Default setup depends on Claude Code and an Anthropic credential
  • No config files or dashboard; customization and debugging go through Claude Code
  • Channels and non-Claude providers are not in trunk; each needs a skill install
  • Prebuilt hardened image and managed Slack app require a free account

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Docker, Node.js 22+, pnpm 10+, Claude Code, Anthropic API credential, OneCLI Agent Vault (credential gateway)
  • Models: Claude (default), OpenAI Codex, OpenRouter, Google, DeepSeek via OpenCode, Ollama local models
