Overview

Inbox Zero runs against a Gmail or Outlook account to organize mail by plain-English rules, pre-draft replies in your style, and save attachments to Google Drive or OneDrive. It also has bulk unsubscribe and archive, cold email blocking, meeting briefs, and a Slack or Telegram chat interface. A separate email client (web and Electron desktop) is included; the iOS app is not open source.

Who it is for: Self-hosters who want an AI layer over Gmail or Outlook

Strengths

  • Supports both Gmail and Outlook, with rules written in plain English
  • Chat control from Slack or Telegram
  • Local dev mode needs no OAuth credentials or AI API keys
  • Self-host setup wizard via npx CLI, plus Docker images per release

Weaknesses

  • License is detected as NOASSERTION, so terms need manual checking
  • Real use needs your own Google or Microsoft OAuth setup
  • iOS app is closed source; Android app is an older React Native build
  • Needs PostgreSQL and Redis alongside the Next.js app

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Docker + Compose
  • Needs Docker, Node.js 24+, PostgreSQL, Redis, Gmail or Outlook OAuth app
  • port 3000
