Overview
A Microsoft course on the Model Context Protocol, organized as numbered modules from core concepts and security to building servers, clients, auth, deployment and a PostgreSQL lab path. Code samples cover C#, Java, JavaScript, Rust, Python and TypeScript. It targets MCP specification 2026-07-28, though some examples are still pinned to 2025-11-25.
Who it is for: Developers new to MCP who want to build servers and clients in code
Strengths
- Samples in six languages: C#, Java, JavaScript, Rust, Python, TypeScript
- Covers stdio and HTTP streaming transports, testing, deployment, OAuth2 and Entra ID auth
- Includes a 13-lab PostgreSQL-backed MCP server path as a capstone
- Tracks the 2026-07-28 spec with a migration guide; 50+ translations
Weaknesses
- Some examples remain pinned to spec 2025-11-25 while SDK support catches up
- Several modules lean on Microsoft products such as Azure, Foundry and Entra ID
- Clone is large because of 50+ translations unless sparse checkout is used
- Course material only, not a reusable library or server
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Azure (some modules), PostgreSQL (module 11)
