Overview
LeRobot provides a Python Robot interface for arms and humanoids (SO100, Koch, Reachy2, Unitree G1 and others), a Parquet plus MP4 dataset format hosted on the Hugging Face Hub, and PyTorch implementations of imitation learning, RL, VLA, world and reward models. CLI tools cover recording, training and evaluation on benchmarks such as LIBERO and MetaWorld.
Who it is for: Robotics engineers and researchers training policies on real or simulated robots
Strengths
- One Robot interface covers many arms, humanoids and teleop devices; plugins auto-discovered by package prefix
- LeRobotDataset format streams from the Hub, with tools to split, merge and edit episodes
- Many policies in pure PyTorch: ACT, Diffusion, Pi0, SmolVLA, GR00T N1.7, HIL-SERL
- One CLI flow for record, train and eval, including simulated benchmarks
Weaknesses
- README gives no RAM or VRAM figures; it points to a separate hardware guide
- Real-world use needs supported physical hardware; named simulation benchmarks are LIBERO and MetaWorld
- Some items, such as QC-FQL, are marked coming soon
- Custom robots or policies require implementing the interfaces yourself
What it needs
- Docker
- Needs PyTorch, Hugging Face Hub
- Models: ACT, Diffusion, VQ-BeT, HIL-SERL, TDMPC
