Overview

Ultracite is a CLI that sets up a JavaScript/TypeScript linter and formatter (Biome, ESLint with Prettier and Stylelint, or Oxlint with Oxfmt) with preconfigured rules. `ultracite init` also writes rule and context files for AI agents such as Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor and Gemini, and `fix` can hand unfixable issues to the Claude Code or Codex CLI.

Who it is for: JS/TS developers who want one lint setup shared by humans and AI agents

Strengths

  • One `npx ultracite init` configures linter, formatter, editor settings and agent rule files
  • Supports three toolchains: Biome, ESLint/Prettier/Stylelint, and Oxlint/Oxfmt
  • Non-interactive init flags for CI, plus per-workspace framework settings for monorepos
  • `doctor` command diagnoses setup problems, including linter version mismatches

Weaknesses

  • Targets JavaScript and TypeScript only
  • Pins linter versions it supports; `upgrade` reinstalls the toolchain at those versions
  • Agent-assisted fixing requires the separate Claude Code or Codex CLI
  • README gives no rule counts or benchmark figures behind the speed claims

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Node.js, Biome, ESLint or Oxlint, Claude Code or Codex CLI (optional)
  • Models: Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Gemini

Quick answers

Is ultracite open source?
