Overview

Token Optimizer is a hook-based plugin for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor, Copilot and other coding assistants. It compresses command and search output, shows file re-reads as diffs or skeletons, checkpoints before auto-compact and restores afterward, and audits configs, skills and memory files. A local SQLite database feeds a dashboard with quality scores and dollar savings.

Who it is for: Heavy Claude Code or Codex users who want lower token spend and cost visibility

Strengths

  • Covers bash, search, JSON, file re-reads and large results, plus config and memory audits
  • Checkpoints before compaction and restores after, so work survives auto-compact
  • Zero dependencies, no telemetry, no MCP server; data stays in local SQLite
  • Installs on Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, OpenClaw, Hermes, Copilot, Cursor and Pi

Weaknesses

  • PolyForm Noncommercial license restricts commercial use; not an OSI open-source license
  • Antigravity, Grok and Devin support is beta or contract-only
  • Claude Code cloud sessions load no plugins and need a separate setup script
  • Comparisons against Headroom and RTK are the author's own claims

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Python 3.9+, SQLite
