Overview

TAKT is a Node.js CLI that defines AI coding workflows in YAML: each step has a persona, permissions, and rules that decide the next step, such as a review-to-fix loop. Queued tasks run in isolated git worktrees with logs and reports under .takt/runs. It drives Claude, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, DeepSeek Harness, Cursor, Copilot CLI and Kiro as providers.

Who it is for: Developers who want repeatable multi-agent coding workflows with review loops

Strengths

  • Review and fix loops are explicit YAML transitions, not prompt instructions
  • Queued tasks run in isolated worktrees, with logs and reports kept per run
  • Supports many providers: Claude, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, Cursor, Copilot CLI, Kiro
  • Ships MCP server (takt-mcp) and ACP agent (takt-acp) entrypoints

Weaknesses

  • Requires Node.js 22.22.0 or later and a git repository with a commit
  • SDK providers need a separate `takt install <provider>` step
  • Web UI (`takt ui`) is labeled experimental
  • No tagged release; large workflow and config surface to learn

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Docker + Compose
  • Needs Node.js >=22.22.0, git, Provider CLI or SDK (Claude, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, Cursor, Copilot, Kiro), gh or glab (optional), tmux (claude-terminal only)
  • Models: Claude Agent SDK, Claude Code CLI, Codex SDK, OpenCode, Pi
  • port 20525

Quick answers

Is takt open source?

Yes. Its code is on GitHub under the MIT license.

Can you run takt with Docker?
