Overview
repository-harness installs a compact AGENTS.md entrypoint, a documentation map, optional plan and decision templates, and explicit-only skills into an existing repository. A Rust `harness` binary handles status, doctor and update, using a three-way merge against the upstream base stored in `.harness-core/`. It is not a task tracker, orchestrator or runtime.
Who it is for: Teams making existing repos easier for coding agents to navigate
Strengths
- Updater does three-way merge, backs up files and changes nothing on conflict
- Skills run only when explicitly invoked; installation activates nothing
- Installs no database, credentials or background processes
- Installer offers dry-run and merge modes, with Bash and PowerShell scripts
Weaknesses
- Installer is run via curl piped to bash
- Does not supply validation commands, runtimes or fixtures for your application
- Legacy SQLite harness-cli and protocol v1 ended support on 2026-08-10
- Overlapping local and upstream edits need manual resolution before update continues
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs bash or PowerShell, curl
