Overview

Refine Core is a React meta-framework that supplies hooks and components for the CRUD parts of an app: authentication, access control, routing, data fetching, state via React Query, and i18n. It is headless, so UI is your own or one of the built-in integrations (Ant Design, Material UI, Mantine, Chakra UI). Data providers cover 15+ backends, including REST, GraphQL, Supabase, Strapi and Firebase.

Who it is for: React developers building admin panels, dashboards and internal tools

Strengths

  • Headless design works with Tailwind or any custom UI, plus Ant Design, MUI, Mantine, Chakra
  • Data provider connectors for 15+ backends including REST, GraphQL, Supabase, Hasura, Firebase
  • Works with Next.js, Remix, React Native and Electron through a router interface
  • Built-in auth, access control, live updates, audit logs and i18n hooks

Weaknesses

  • Not an AI project: AI features are only in a separate hosted Refine agent
  • React and TypeScript only; no support for other frontend frameworks
  • Not a backend or boilerplate; you supply the API and database
  • Last tagged release is 2026-04-02, months behind recent commits

What it needs

  • TypeScript
  • Needs Node.js, React, a backend API (REST, GraphQL, Supabase, etc.)
