Overview

An extension for the pi coding agent that spawns sub-agents in isolated sessions, each with its own tools, system prompt, model and thinking level. Agents run in the background by default and can be steered, resumed, scheduled, or isolated in git worktrees. A SubagentWorkflow tool runs deterministic JavaScript scripts (agent, parallel, pipeline), including scripts written for Claude Code's Workflow tool.

Who it is for: pi users who want parallel sub-agents and scripted multi-agent workflows

Strengths

  • Background agents with queuing, default concurrency limit of 10, and completion notifications
  • Custom agent types in markdown with YAML frontmatter, tool denylist and skill preloading
  • Git worktree isolation auto-commits each agent's changes to a branch
  • Workflow scripts run in a node:vm sandbox and match Claude Code's Workflow tool

Weaknesses

  • Only works inside pi, which must be version 1.1.0 or newer
  • Other hosts such as DeepSeek Harness rely on untested third-party adapters
  • Foreground-to-background handoff is one-way and not offered for queued or nested agents
  • Headless pi -p does not wait for scheduled subagents

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs pi >= 1.1.0
  • Models: Any model configured in pi, selectable by fuzzy name such as haiku or sonnet

Quick answers
