Overview
Extension for the Pi coding agent that exposes MCP servers through a single `mcp` proxy tool (about 200 tokens) instead of loading every tool definition. Servers start on first call and stop after 10 idle minutes by default, and tool metadata is cached so search works without live connections. It reads `.mcp.json`, imports Cursor, Claude Code, Codex and VS Code configs, and replaces Pi's built-in MCP.
Who it is for: Pi users who run several MCP servers and want low context cost
Strengths
- Lazy server start with 10-minute idle stop; README measured 0 of 100 servers running at session start
- Supports MCP prompts, elicitation, sampling, Tasks and UI apps, unlike Pi's built-in MCP
- OAuth tokens stored in the OS keychain by default
- Imports existing Cursor, Claude Code, Codex and VS Code configs via /mcp-adapter setup
Weaknesses
- Only works with Pi; not a standalone MCP client
- Bulk tasks cost up to 5.5x more tokens than Pi's built-in without scripting
- Semantic tool search needs a System One key
- Sampling is text-only; each Pi session runs its own server processes
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Pi coding agent (0.99 or later), Node.js and npm
