Overview

Octogent runs several Claude Code sessions from a local web UI and API. Each job gets a "tentacle" folder holding CONTEXT.md, todo.md and notes, and a Claude Code agent can spawn child agents from todo items and message them. Terminals can share the main workspace or run in git worktrees on separate branches.

Who it is for: Developers running many Claude Code sessions on one codebase

Strengths

  • Scoped markdown context per job (CONTEXT.md, todo.md) that agents read and update
  • Spawns worker agents from todo checkbox items, with inter-agent messaging
  • Optional git worktree isolation on octogent/<id> branches
  • CLI commands to list, stop, kill and prune terminal sessions

Weaknesses

  • Docs cover only Claude Code; startup needs the claude binary
  • Not published to npm; install requires building from a clone
  • PTY sessions do not survive an API restart and are marked stale
  • Described as a personal exploration; pull requests not currently being reviewed

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Node.js 22+, claude (Claude Code CLI), git, gh, curl
  • Models: Claude Code
  • port 8787

Quick answers

Is octogent open source?
