Overview

Nitric is a Go-based CLI and framework where you declare APIs, buckets, queues, key-value stores and SQL databases inline in application code. `nitric up` generates Pulumi or Terraform deployments for AWS, GCP or Azure, with IAM permissions derived from the access you declare. It also runs the app locally with a dashboard. It has no AI-specific features.

Who it is for: Developers who want portable cloud backends without hand-written IaC

Strengths

  • Infrastructure and least-privilege IAM inferred from a few lines of app code
  • SDKs for JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Go and Dart
  • Deploys to AWS, GCP or Azure via Pulumi or Terraform providers
  • Custom providers supported; local run with dashboard included

Weaknesses

  • Not an AI project; README mentions no model or agent features
  • Limited to the resource types Nitric abstracts; custom needs use escape hatches
  • Needs the Nitric CLI and a provider toolchain to deploy
  • Not a hosted backend; you still deploy to and pay for your own cloud

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Pulumi or Terraform (deployment), AWS, GCP or Azure account (deployment)
