Overview
Neovate Code is a command-line coding agent installed from npm as @neovate/code and started with `neovate`. You describe a task in the terminal, review the proposed changes and approve tool calls. It reads API keys from environment variables for each provider, or you can sign in with `/login` and pick a model with `/model`.
Who it is for: Developers who want a terminal coding agent with their own API key
Strengths
- Installs with one npm command; runs on macOS, Linux and Windows
- Respects provider API key environment variables, with /login and /model for setup
- Asks for approval on tool calls and shows proposed changes before applying
- MIT license with a documented quickstart and contributing guide
Weaknesses
- Requires Node.js and npm; the README gives no minimum version
- No demo or screenshots of workflows beyond a single image
- README does not describe plugins, MCP support or sandboxing
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Node.js, npm, LLM provider API key
