Overview

A Unity package plus a Node.js MCP server that connects to the Editor over WebSocket. AI clients such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex CLI, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf and OpenCode can manage scenes, GameObjects, components, materials and prefabs, run Unity Test Runner tests, read console logs and control play mode. It also exposes resources, prompts and a batch tool with optional rollback.

Who it is for: Unity developers who want AI coding agents to operate the Editor

Strengths

  • About 30 tools covering scenes, GameObjects, transforms, materials, prefabs, packages and tests
  • Editor Configure buttons write client configs, with project-relative variants to commit to git
  • batch_execute groups multiple operations in one request with optional rollback on failure
  • Read-only resources such as unity://scenes-hierarchy, unity://logs and unity://assets

Weaknesses

  • Requires Unity 6 or later
  • Needs Node.js 18+ in addition to the Unity package
  • Server must be started manually from the Editor window
  • UPM cache path contains a hash, so configs need updating after package upgrades

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Unity 6 or later, Node.js 18 or later, npm 9 or later (for debugging the server)
  • Models: Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, Codex CLI, GitHub Copilot
