Overview

A Go MCP server that connects AI agents and IDEs to databases. The `--prebuilt=<database>` flag provides generic tools such as `list_tables` and `execute_sql`, and a `tools.yaml` file defines custom parameterized tools, toolsets, prompts and resources. Client SDKs exist for Python, JS/TS, Go and Java, and the server handles connection pooling, IAM auth and OpenTelemetry.

Who it is for: Engineers connecting coding agents or production agents to databases via MCP

Strengths

  • Prebuilt tools for many databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, Spanner, MongoDB, Redis, Snowflake and more
  • Custom tools defined in YAML with parameterized SQL statements and toolsets
  • Client SDKs for Python, JS/TS, Go and Java, with LangChain and LlamaIndex integrations
  • Built-in connection pooling, IAM-integrated auth and OpenTelemetry metrics and tracing

Weaknesses

  • Many sources and tools are tied to Google Cloud databases, so non-Google setups need per-source config
  • README container example pins version 0.24.0 while install steps use 1.15.0
  • npx run method is described as optimized for convenience, not performance
  • Managed Google Cloud MCP Servers are a separate product with differences from this one

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Docker
  • Needs A supported database (e.g. PostgreSQL), Node.js (only for the npx install)
  • port 5000
