Overview
Pairs a Blender addon, which runs a socket server inside Blender, with a Python MCP server that forwards tool calls from clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. The AI can create and modify objects and materials, run Blender Python, check its work through viewport views and renders, and pull assets from Poly Haven, Sketchfab and Poly Pizza or generate models via Meshy, Tripo, Hyper3D Rodin and Hunyuan3D.
Who it is for: 3D artists and developers driving Blender from an MCP-capable AI client
Strengths
- Works with many MCP clients: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, OpenCode, Antigravity
- One-line installer configures detected clients and enables the addon, keeping .bak copies of changed files
- Optional safe mode (BLENDER_MCP_SAFE_MODE=1) validates scripts before they run in Blender
- Multiple Blender instances supported by pointing separate client entries at different ports
Weaknesses
- Addon socket has no authentication or encryption; anyone reaching the port can run Python in Blender
- Arbitrary Python execution is the default; script checking is opt-in
- Hosted AI 3D generation without your own API keys is a paid Premium feature
- Only one MCP server instance should run at a time, not both Cursor and Claude Desktop
What it needs
- Docker
- Needs Blender 3.0+, Python 3.10+, uv
- Models: Poly Haven, Sketchfab, Poly Pizza, Meshy, Tripo
