Overview
Guidelines covering Go 1.0 through 1.26 that tell a coding agent which language and stdlib features to use, such as max, slices.Contains, cmp.Or, new(42) and errors.AsType. The Claude Code plugin adds a /use-modern-go command that reads the Go version from go.mod and limits the agent to features up to that version. Junie includes the guidelines by default from version 2xx.620.xx.
Who it is for: Go developers using Claude Code or Junie who want current idioms
Strengths
- Reads the target Go version from go.mod and limits features to it
- Covers Go 1.0 to 1.26, including everything the modernize analyzer targets
- Installs in two commands as a Claude Code plugin
- Built into Junie with a settings toggle, no manual setup
Weaknesses
- Supports only Junie and Claude Code; no Cursor or Codex setup documented
- Claude Code needs /use-modern-go run manually at the start of each session
- Guidelines only; does not rewrite existing code, unlike the modernize analyzer
- No tagged releases
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Claude Code or Junie
