Overview
GitMCP is a remote MCP server that turns a GitHub repository or GitHub Pages site into documentation and code-search tools for assistants such as Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, VSCode and Cline. It reads llms.txt first, then AI-optimized docs, then README.md, and uses GitHub code search for source. Use the hosted URL (gitmcp.io/{owner}/{repo} or gitmcp.io/docs) or self-host it.

Strengths
- Hosted URL works with no install or signup; paste it into the MCP client config
- Per-repo endpoints or one generic gitmcp.io/docs endpoint for switching repos
