Overview

Ghostex is a Rust/GPUI desktop app that wraps coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Gemini CLI in a chat view, terminal, embedded Chromium panes and an optional VS Code editor. Sessions persist across restarts. iOS and Android apps pair through Easy Connect or Tailscale to read transcripts and send prompts, and agents can open and steer other agents through the ghostex command.

Who it is for: Developers running several coding agents at once, on desktop and phone

Strengths

  • Works with many agent CLIs: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, Gemini, Grok, Cursor, Copilot CLI
  • Sessions survive restarts; fuzzy search of all past prompts, also via gx f
  • Runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, with Android and iOS apps; brew, deb, rpm and AUR packages
  • Prompt queueing, worktree per task, split panes, and Markdown/HTML annotations sent back to the agent

Weaknesses

  • iOS access is by TestFlight, requested through the project's Discord
  • Chromium is installed on first use of the browser or code editor
  • Several features depend on third-party parts such as CEF, code-server and Trycua

What it needs

  • Needs Chromium (CEF), Agent CLIs such as Claude Code or Codex, Tailscale (optional)
  • Models: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi, Gemini CLI

Quick answers
