Overview

Fusio is a self-hosted PHP backend that exposes databases and custom actions (PHP, JavaScript or Python workers) as REST APIs. It adds a developer portal, generated client SDKs, subscription billing and usage analytics. Version 7.0 added an AI agent that generates worker actions via Ollama, ChatGPT or Gemini, and MCP support for exposing APIs as agent tools.

Who it is for: Backend teams publishing databases and services as managed, monetized APIs

Strengths

  • Runs on MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQLite; Docker image and manual PHP install both documented
  • Actions written in PHP, or as worker code in JavaScript or Python
  • Includes developer portal, monetization plans, quotas and usage analytics
  • Official SDKs for C#, Go, Java, JavaScript, PHP and Python

Weaknesses

  • Production use needs an Nginx/Apache setup; the built-in PHP server is dev only
  • SDK generation, marketplace and monitoring rely on separate external services needing credentials
  • README gives no RAM or hardware requirements
  • AI action generation needs an external or self-run LLM provider

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQLite, Nginx or Apache (production), Ollama, OpenAI or Gemini (optional, AI agent)
  • Models: Ollama, ChatGPT, Gemini
  • port 8080
