Overview

FalkorDB is a property graph database built as a Redis module in Rust. It stores adjacency as GraphBLAS sparse matrices and runs OpenCypher queries (with proprietary extensions) through linear algebra. Queries go through GRAPH.QUERY from any Redis client or the official Python, Java, Node.js, Rust, Go and C# clients. It targets knowledge-graph and agent-memory backends for LLM apps.

Who it is for: Engineers needing a Cypher graph store for GenAI, agent memory or fraud analysis

Strengths

  • Speaks OpenCypher, so existing Cypher queries and property-graph modeling carry over
  • Works with any Redis client via GRAPH.QUERY; official clients for six languages
  • Quick start is one docker run, with a browser UI on port 3000
  • Sparse-matrix storage and linear-algebra execution; benchmarks published on a separate site

Weaknesses

  • SSPLv1 license is not OSI-approved and restricts offering it as a service
  • Building from source needs GraphBLAS, LAGraph, RediSearch and clang-23 with OpenMP
  • Runs as a Redis module, not a standalone server
  • Multi-tenant claim in the headline is not detailed in the README

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Redis, GraphBLAS, LAGraph, RediSearch
  • port 3000
