Overview
Dembrandt renders a page in Chromium through playwright-core, reads computed styles from the DOM, and outputs colors, typography, spacing, borders, shadows, motion, and component styles. It exports W3C DTCG tokens, Tailwind v4 theme CSS, shadcn/ui themes, DESIGN.md, and HTML or PDF reports. It also compares runs against a baseline and exits 1 on drift, with a GitHub Action and an MCP server for agents.
Who it is for: Front-end and design-system engineers who need token extraction or drift checks
Strengths
- Exports DTCG, Tailwind v4 @theme, shadcn/ui theme, and DESIGN.md from one extraction
- --compare exits 1 on token drift; GitHub Action annotates PRs
- MCP server with job-based tools, installable via npx in Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code
- Multi-page crawl, sitemap discovery, dark mode, mobile viewport, and authenticated page access
Weaknesses
- Requires a separate one-time Chromium download via install-browser
- Canvas/WebGL sites cannot be analyzed; dark mode needs an explicit flag
- Hover and focus states are sampled; pointer-path or timer-driven states are missed
- Team drift dashboard and ingest API sit in a separate beta app tied to an account
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs Node.js 18+, Chromium via playwright-core
