Overview

codesight scans a project and writes a compact map of routes, database models, components, env vars and import-graph hot files to .codesight/. It also generates CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules, codex.md and AGENTS.md, a per-topic wiki, and can run as an MCP server with 14 tools. TypeScript gets AST parsing; other languages use regex detection.

Who it is for: Developers using Claude Code, Cursor or Codex who want less repo exploration

Strengths

  • Runs with one npx command, no config, no API keys, zero dependencies
  • Detects 30+ frameworks and 14 ORM parsers across about 14 languages
  • Blast-radius command traces affected files, routes and models through the import graph
  • Generated wiki and map are committed to git and need no LLM calls

Weaknesses

  • Non-TypeScript languages use regex detection, so recall is lower than AST
  • Misses routes defined dynamically; README reports 38 of 43 on one project
  • Token-savings figures are estimates from formulas, not measured assistant sessions
  • No tagged release; the README gives no docs site

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Node.js >= 18

Quick answers

Is codesight open source?

Yes. Its code is on GitHub under the MIT license.
