Overview

CAO runs a local cao-server and starts provider coding CLIs (Kiro CLI, Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor CLI and others) in isolated tmux sessions. A supervisor agent gets tools to delegate tasks to worker agents in parallel or in sequence. Agents stay full CLI processes with their own authentication, and a web UI at localhost:9889 shows the fleet.

Who it is for: Developers running several coding CLIs together on one project

Strengths

  • Supports 12 provider CLIs, including Claude Code, Codex, Kiro, Copilot and Cursor
  • Workers keep native CLI auth and capabilities instead of being re-wrapped
  • Includes web UI, HTTP API, flows, memory, skills and tool restrictions
  • Kubernetes example for running supervisor and worker fleets on Amazon EKS

Weaknesses

  • Requires tmux 3.3+ and at least one separately installed, authenticated provider CLI
  • Default provider is Kiro CLI; other providers need per-provider overrides
  • Agent plugins feature is gated off by default behind an environment variable
  • No Docker image or compose file; container use is via a devcontainer feature

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Python 3.10+, tmux 3.3+, uv, a provider CLI (Kiro, Claude Code, Codex, etc.)
  • Models: Kiro CLI, Claude Code, Codex CLI, Antigravity CLI, Hermes
  • port 9889
