Coder is hiring: 28 open roles

Overview

Runs a WebSocket server in Lua that the Claude Code CLI discovers through a lock file in ~/.claude/ide, using the same MCP variant as the VS Code extension. It opens Claude in a split terminal, sends selections and files as context, and shows proposed edits as native Neovim diffs you accept with :w or reject with :q. Marked beta; requires Neovim 0.8+ and the Claude Code CLI.

Who it is for: Neovim users who run Claude Code and want editor integration

Strengths

  • Pure Lua on vim.loop; the only listed plugin dependency is snacks.nvim for terminal support
  • Proposed edits open as native Neovim diffs, editable before accepting; vertical, horizontal or unified layouts
  • Sends visual selections, buffers and file-tree entries (nvim-tree, neo-tree, oil, mini.files) as context
  • Exposes User autocmds for send and diff lifecycle, plus PROTOCOL.md documenting the protocol

Weaknesses

  • Tied to Claude Code CLI; no other assistants or model providers are supported
  • README labels status as beta; last release is 2025-09-16
  • Protocol was reverse-engineered, so upstream CLI changes can break compatibility
  • :ClaudeCodeSendText and focus_after_send only work with native/snacks terminal providers

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Neovim >= 0.8.0, Claude Code CLI, folke/snacks.nvim
  • Models: Claude (via Claude Code CLI)
