Overview
CC Safety Net installs as a hook in coding agent CLIs and parses each shell command or file access before it runs. It blocks things like `git reset --hard`, `git push --force`, `rm -rf` on dangerous targets, `curl | bash`, and reads of SSH keys, `.env` files and `~/.aws`, including when wrapped in `bash -c` or `python -c`. It is not a sandbox and does not restrict processes, filesystem permissions or network egress.
Who it is for: Developers running coding agents who want guards against destructive commands
Strengths
- Supports 16 coding CLIs, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI, on Windows, macOS, Linux
- Parses command semantics, so wrapping in bash -c or reordering flags does not bypass rules
- Standard, Strict and Paranoid presets, a GUI editor, and rulebooks for Terraform, AWS, gcloud, Azure
- Policy lives in a committed .cc-safety-net/ directory; a broken config never blocks commands
Weaknesses
- Not a sandbox: no process containment, filesystem permissions or network egress monitoring
- Requires Node.js 18 or higher
- Must keep the @latest qualifier on npx, or a stale cached copy may run
- Protection depends on each CLI's hook support; per-CLI requirements vary
