Overview
Cate is a desktop app where terminals, Monaco editors, browsers and document viewers sit on a pannable canvas or in docked tabs. Terminals running Claude Code, Codex or other agent CLIs show running, waiting or finished state and notify you when input is needed. It creates git worktrees per branch so parallel agents stay separated.
Who it is for: Developers running several coding agents in parallel across git branches
Strengths
- Per-terminal agent status and notifications for turn end and permission prompts
- One-step git worktree creation from a local branch, remote branch or open PR
- Agent sessions reattach with scrollback and resume commands after restart
- Prebuilt installers for macOS, Windows and Linux, plus a Homebrew cask
Weaknesses
- Status reporting works only with supported agent CLIs; the list is not given
- Desktop app; no web or self-hosted server deployment is described
- Ships no agent or model of its own; you bring the agent CLI
- Remote pairing through Cate Connect is not documented in the README
What it needs
- no GPU
- Needs git, agent CLIs such as Claude Code or Codex
