Overview

AOCI-CODE is a Go CLI (`aoci`) and local stdio MCP server that has your coding agent write one plain-text entry per file (responsibility, dependencies, public contracts, constraints) into `aoci.code.txt` in the repo. Agents read the index before a task instead of re-reading the codebase, and the server flags entries to update after code changes. It can also index MySQL, PostgreSQL and openGauss table structure.

Who it is for: Developers using coding agents on large or long-lived repositories

Strengths

  • Index is plain text in the repo, so Git diffs, reviews and rollbacks work
  • Works with any host supporting stdio MCP: Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode
  • Local only: reads source and DB schema, no Internet access, no stored credentials
  • Optional table-level index for MySQL 5.7.6+, PostgreSQL and openGauss 6.0.5

Weaknesses

  • First index is slow: about an hour per 200,000 lines of code
  • Release candidate (v0.1.0-rc21); no stable release published
  • FSL-1.1-MIT source-available license, not a standard OSI open-source license
  • Index quality depends on the agent's model; MariaDB is not supported for database indexing

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Git, MCP-capable coding agent host, Go toolchain and make (source builds only), MySQL, PostgreSQL or openGauss (optional, for database index)
  • Models: Any model via MCP host (Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode)

Quick answers

Is aoci-code open source?
