Overview
Ante is a terminal coding agent written in Rust, shipped as one executable with no runtime dependencies. It runs against 15 hosted-provider presets or a custom catalog entry, and can run fully offline on GGUF models through a managed llama.cpp. It also offers headless, server (stdio, socket, WebSocket) and Slack/Discord gateway modes, plus settings profiles that swap the system prompt and tool set.
Who it is for: Developers wanting a lightweight, model-agnostic terminal coding agent
Strengths
- Single Rust binary, about 15MB compressed, no runtime dependencies
- Offline mode runs GGUF models via managed llama.cpp, no API key needed
- Named profiles replace system prompt, tools, skills and memory per run
- Terminal-Bench 2.1 results published with pinned builds and raw run logs
Weaknesses
- Beta preview: breaking changes and incomplete functionality expected
- macOS and Linux only; Windows requires WSL
- Prebuilt binary is under Binary Preview Terms, not Apache-2.0
- /term orchestration requires tmux and the other agent CLIs installed
What it needs
- GPU optional
- Needs tmux (for /term only)
- Models: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek
