Overview
Amplication generates backend microservices (APIs, data models, DTOs) from a modeled domain, and pushes the code to your Git repository. Organizations can define their own live templates and plugins so generated services follow shared standards, and the tool handles package updates and versioning. It can be used hosted at app.amplication.com or run locally as an Nx monorepo for development.
Who it is for: Platform teams standardizing backend service scaffolding across an organization
Strengths
- Generates editable service code (APIs, data models, DTOs) that you own and commit to Git
- Plugin system and custom live templates enforce shared standards across services
- Handles package updates, patches and versioning of generated services
- Hosted version available, so no local setup is needed to try it
Weaknesses
- Components under the ee directory use a separate Enterprise Edition license
- Self-hosting is documented only as a development setup, not a production deployment guide
- Local setup needs Node.js, Docker and several services run via npm scripts
What it needs
- no GPU
- Compose
- Needs Node.js, Docker, Git
Quick answers
Is amplication open source?
Its code is public on GitHub under its own license terms; read them before you use it at work.
Can you run amplication with Docker?
Yes. Its repository has a Docker setup: a Dockerfile, a Compose file or a published image.
