Overview

10x is an npm-installed CLI (10x-cli, TypeScript) for coding in the terminal. It runs multi-step workflows called Superpowers (/review, /pr, /refactor, /debug, /test) and routes each step to a fast or a smart model tier. It supports a bring-your-own OpenRouter key, project context in 10X.md, and custom workflows and skills as Markdown files.

Who it is for: Developers wanting a BYOK terminal coding agent with model routing

Strengths

  • Each workflow step can target a different model tier (superfast, fast, smart)
  • Custom workflows and skills are plain Markdown files in .10x/ or ~/.config/10x/
  • BYOK mode with an OpenRouter key; MIT licensed
  • Non-interactive mode via -x and session resume via --resume

Weaknesses

  • The 'up to 20x faster' claim has no benchmark in the README and applies to the smallest tier
  • Non-BYOK hosting and pricing are not described in the README
  • No docs site, demo or release tags; only the README documents usage
  • README does not describe sandboxing or permission controls for command execution

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Node.js/npm, OpenRouter API key (BYOK)
  • Models: GPT OSS 20B, Kimi K2 1T, Claude Opus 4

Quick answers

Is 10x open source?
