Overview
Spleeter is Deezer's Python library and CLI for splitting music into stems using pretrained TensorFlow models. It ships 2-stem (vocals/accompaniment), 4-stem (vocals/drums/bass/other) and 5-stem (adds piano) models, and can train new separation models given a dataset of isolated sources. It installs with pip or runs from a Docker image.
Who it is for: Developers and audio engineers who need local stem separation from music files
Strengths
- Pretrained 2, 4 and 5 stem models, usable from CLI or Python API
- README claims 4-stem separation about 100x faster than real-time on a GPU
- MIT-licensed; pip install, Docker image and Colab notebook provided
- Includes training code for custom separation models given isolated-source data
Weaknesses
- Last release is 2.1.0 from 2021-09; that release made breaking CLI changes
- Known issues on Apple M1 due to TensorFlow compatibility; workaround needed
- Requires ffmpeg and libsndfile installed separately
- Faster, more precise processing is offered only in the commercial Spleeter Pro
What it needs
- GPU optional
- Docker
- Needs ffmpeg, libsndfile, TensorFlow
- Models: spleeter:2stems, spleeter:4stems, spleeter:5stems
