Overview
elizaOS is a TypeScript monorepo containing an agent runtime (@elizaos/core), a standalone agent HTTP host, the Eliza app for web, desktop and mobile, and first-party plugins for connectors, wallets and device bridges. Models can be routed per capability to on-device Eliza-1 (Gemma 4 based, 2B to 27B), direct providers, or the optional Eliza Cloud. It also includes Linux and Android distribution tooling under packages/os.
Who it is for: Developers building TypeScript agents or self-hosting a personal agent app
Strengths
- Plugins can register actions, providers, evaluators, services, model handlers, routes and app views
- Per-capability routing across local, direct-provider and Eliza Cloud backends; Cloud is optional
- Ships an app, CLI, standalone agent host and OS distribution tooling in one MIT repo
- On-device Eliza-1 text tiers (2B, 4B, 9B, 27B) plus embeddings, speech, vision and image generation
Weaknesses
- Large monorepo; setup needs pinned Bun and Node versions and runs submodule and native build steps
- Third-party plugins and registry submissions are no longer accepted
- Strict contribution rules: human-written issues only, UI PRs require video and screenshots
- Capability availability varies by OS, plugins and permissions; hardware requirements not stated
What it needs
- GPU optional
- Needs Bun, Node.js, Python 3.11+ (benchmarks only)
- Models: Eliza-1 (Gemma 4 based, 2B/4B/9B/27B), GGUF embeddings, Direct model providers, Eliza Cloud
