Overview

Dream Textures is a Blender add-on that runs Stable Diffusion locally to generate textures, concept art and background assets from text prompts. It adds tileable texture output, depth-to-image texture projection onto scenes, inpaint/outpaint, 4x upscaling, and a render-engine node system for re-styling animations. Tested on CUDA and Apple Silicon GPUs; DreamStudio is available as a cloud fallback.

Who it is for: Blender artists who want local Stable Diffusion textures and image generation

Strengths

  • Works inside Blender: tileable textures, depth-based texture projection and a Cycles render pass option
  • Includes inpaint, outpaint and 4x AI upscaling
  • Runs models locally, with DreamStudio as a cloud option for unsupported hardware
  • Generation history can be recalled, exported and imported

Weaknesses

  • Last release was 2024-08-26
  • Tested only on CUDA and Apple Silicon GPUs
  • Requires Blender; not usable as a standalone tool
  • macOS may need a manual quarantine workaround for bundled dependencies

What it needs

  • GPU optional
  • Needs Blender, PyTorch, DreamStudio (optional cloud)
  • Models: Stable Diffusion

Quick answers

Is dream-textures open source?

Yes. Its code is on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license.

Does dream-textures need a GPU?
