Overview

ZenStack V3 is a schema-first TypeScript ORM that keeps Prisma's schema style and query API but runs on its own engine built on Kysely, with no Rust or WASM components. It adds access control, data validation, polymorphic models, generated CRUD web APIs with framework adapters, TanStack Query hooks and Zod schemas. It is a data-layer library with no AI features.

Who it is for: TypeScript developers wanting a Prisma-style ORM with built-in access control

Strengths

  • Pure TypeScript implementation, no Rust or WASM engine
  • Prisma-compatible schema and query API, usable as a drop-in replacement
  • Typed Kysely query builder available as an escape hatch instead of raw SQL
  • Generates CRUD APIs, TanStack Query hooks and Zod schemas from the schema

Weaknesses

  • Library only; no hosting, auth service or file storage included
  • Targets Node.js and Bun; other runtimes are not mentioned in the README
  • V3 is an engine rewrite, so Prisma feature parity needs checking
  • No AI features; fit with an AI project list is indirect

What it needs

  • no GPU
  • Needs Node.js or Bun, Kysely
